Being my first hackathon, Hack Western was a fun, challenging, and inspiring experience! It helped me realize the incredible impact simple student projects can have on the world. Combining an Android app, sound classification neural net, and ReactJS app, my team detected and heat mapped noise pollution for smart cities. With applications like improving the efficiency of emergency responses, the project we built will be remembered as a turning point in my technical career. The amount of passion displayed from students, sponsors, and Hack Western organizers was heart-felt and amazing - 36 hours I'll never forget!

Hack Western was a good experience, and I learned quite a bit from it. For the first time in my university career, I actually had the chance to work in a team environment which taught me a lot. I learned that communication, focus and teamwork are key aspects for success when it comes to building a 48 hour hack. The experience really makes me respect the developmental teams of large scale app and programs a lot more.

My favorite part about HackWestern was the science-fair layout when we got to pitch our projects. The presentation and pitching experience taught me that team-work and good communication are just as important as being skilled in tech. Making good products is not just about coding and design.
